Summer at the North Pole

We all know the North Pole to be one of the coldest places on Earth, hence turning it into Santa’s address of choice. It’s a winter wonderland, with snow-covered landscapes year-round, right?

Not anymore, it seems. The ice in the North Pole will reportedly be melting this summer, something that scientists didn’t foresee happening until the year 2100.

Seasoned polar scientists believe the chances of a totally ice-free North Pole this summer are greater than 50:50 because the normally thick ice formed over many years at the Pole has been blown away and replaced by huge swathes of thinner ice formed over a single year.

Is that depressing or what? Can’t you just imagine the world’s water levels rising like crazy? As if we’re all not dealing with enough floods in various locations around the world. Who says global warming isn’t real?
