Safeway to switch to biodiesel

From Better World Club:

Safeway announced that their 1,000-plus fleet of trucks will soon be powered by a biodiesel blend. They estimate that the move will reduce its annual carbon dioxide emissions by 75 million pounds, the equivalent of taking nearly 7,500 cars off the road each year.

This is part of the grocery chain’s “Greenhouse Gas Reduction Initiative”,designed to reduce air pollution and manage their carbon footprint.
The company’s other green project include the purchase of wind energy, conversion of a couple dozen Safeway stores to solar power, and a recycling program that recycles roughly 500,000 tons of materials annually.
