Bump cars

I heard this on the radio this morning: Georgetown's Four Seasons Hotel will be installing little speed bumps that will generate electricity when cars drive over them.

Organic indeed

While roaming around a newly opened supermarket yesterday, I spotted packaging for meat which I've never seen before. The person in charge of that section was beaming with pride as she told me and my boyfriend that the meat was organic. "Yes ma'am, sir, the meat is really tender and it's organic too. They take young cattle, put them in a cage, then feed them whole grains." Um.

Thread Lightly

Cecile took me to my first eyebrow threading yesterday. I've always been interested in it, but was always too chicken to try out something new, especially something that could possibly be painful. It did hurt a little bit so unlike waxing, which is a quick pain, threading was prolonged discomfort. But that was mostly when the aesthetician did the inner brow.

On the other hand, it's better because no chemicals are used, and no skin layers are being peeled off. (I don't know about you, but I like having my skin, especially in the sensitive eye area.) So it is definitely the more natural and healthier alternative. The technique can also be used to remove other facial or body hair.

Green Burials

As the Philippines mourns the loss of its democracy icon, former President Cory Aquino, I got to thinking about death and burial practices again. I read about eco-friendly coffins made from banana sheaves by a Colorado-based company called Ecoffins. The caskets take about 6 months to 2 years to biodegrade. The bodies aren't embalmed, which allows them to just decompose into the earth, probably like nature intended. Here's the full article from Associated Press.
